FAQ’s for HHT Training
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses a naturally occurring state of focused awareness to access the subconscious mind. In this state, attention gently withdraws from external distractions and turns inward. You are not asleep, and you are not unconscious. You remain aware and in control, but your analytical and critical mind becomes quieter, allowing deeper layers of memory, emotion, and belief to become accessible.
In Holistic Hypnotherapy training, we use this focused state to safely and consciously access the subconscious patterns that shape our behaviour and create shifts to align a person to their desired outcome. We take clients through structured, personalised journeys to visualise and affirm their desired state, release blockages from the past, and address the root cause of their concerns. Many of our emotional reactions, anxieties, and recurring life patterns are driven by beliefs formed early in life, often outside of conscious awareness. Holistic Hypnotherapy allows these beliefs to be identified at their origin and restructured in a way that aligns with who the person is today, creating sustainable change rather than temporary relief.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a practical approach to understanding how we think, communicate, and create meaning from our experiences. It is based on the idea that our thoughts (neuro), language (linguistic), and behavioural patterns (programming) are interconnected. The way we internally represent events through images, sounds, feelings, and self talk shapes our emotional responses and behaviour.
NLP works by identifying these internal patterns and helping a person consciously change them. By shifting the language we use, our perspective, and the mental images we create, we can change the meaning attached to past experiences and create new behavioural choices. Rather than analysing a problem for long periods of time, NLP focuses on how the issue is structured in the mind and how to reorganise that structure to produce a different outcome.
In our training and sessions, NLP is integrated with Holistic Hypnotherapy to create deeper and more sustainable change, allowing both conscious insight and subconscious transformation to work together.
In a typical session, you will have an initial discussion with your therapist, experience a process to address your desired outcome, and then debrief. Our first role is to clearly identify your objective and gain some background on the issue. All behavior is governed by beliefs, and we work with the beliefs you have accumulated in the subconscious mind that are holding you back. Once we understand your desired outcome and current patterns, we will use our Holistic Hypnotherapy and NLP tools to help you process unfinished emotions, reframe events, and move you toward your desired outcome.
During our processes, the therapist gently guides you into a relaxed and focused state using breath awareness, mindfulness, and guided imagery. As the body relaxes, brainwave activity typically shifts from active beta waves toward slower alpha and theta waves, which are associated with deeper reflection and access to subconscious material. From this state, the therapist facilitates processes such as regression, emotional integration, and belief reframing. You may revisit formative experiences, explore emotional charges from the past, and update the meanings that were created at the time. The goal is not to relive the past, but to release unresolved emotions and transform the beliefs that were formed.
Sessions are collaborative and intentional, with the client actively engaged in the process throughout. During the debrief, the therapist will check in on what you have understood, and you will mutually witness the changes that occurred during the session. Most clients do see shifts straight away, sometimes in baby steps and sometimes as a complete transformation.
Hypnotherapy is a safe, evidence-informed, complementary approach that works with the mind‑body connection to support positive change. When practiced ethically and within professional standards, it can be highly effective for helping people develop healthier patterns, reduce stress, and build emotional resilience.
Permitted Scope of Hypnotherapy Practice
In alignment with leading hypnotherapy training institutes and professional associations, hypnotherapy may support clients with:
- Stress management and deep relaxation
- Anxiety management (non-acute, non-psychotic)
- Phobias and fears
- Habit change (e.g., smoking cessation, nail biting)
- Confidence and self-esteem
- Performance enhancement (academic, professional, athletic)
- Sleep improvement (non-medical insomnia)
- Motivation and goal achievement
- Weight management as a behavioral support tool
- Pain management techniques used alongside medical care
- Emotional regulation
- Trauma work within the practitioner’s level of training and where there is emotional stability
- Stress-related or psychosomatic conditions, in conjunction with appropriate medical supervision
Hypnotherapy is best understood as a complementary modality — it works alongside, not instead of, medical or psychological care when needed.
What hypnotherapy does not do
Your safety and wellbeing are our priority. Ethical hypnotherapists do not:
- Diagnose medical or psychiatric conditions
- Treat medical diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular or neurological disorders
- Replace medical, psychiatric, or psychological treatment
- Work with severe psychiatric conditions (such as active psychosis or acute suicidal risk) without appropriate referral
- Advise clients to stop prescribed medication
- Use hypnosis to influence legal testimony
- Attempt to “recover” memories without appropriate psychological qualifications
If a client presents with symptoms that fall outside a hypnotherapist’s scope of practice, referral to a qualified healthcare professional is always made.
Hypnotherapy can be used:
- As a complementary support to medical, dental, or psychological treatment
- As a behavioral and cognitive support tool
- As a relaxation and mind‑body regulation technique
We believe in collaborative care. When appropriate, and with client consent, hypnotherapy can work in harmony with other professionals to support overall wellbeing.
